F436 is the ASTM specification covering hardened steel washers for use with fasteners having nominal thread diameters of 1/4" through 4". They're intended for general-purpose mechanical and structural use with bolts, nuts, studs, and other internally and externally threaded fasteners.  F436 washers are suitable for use with fasteners covered in Specifications A193(carbon & alloy), A325, A354, A449, and A490.  These washers are designated by type denoting the material and by style denoting the shape.

Inventory

MSI Supply stocks a full range of washers to support our stud bolt inventory, which for carbon steen means 1/2” - 2” diameter in: Plain (black) finish, Teflon Blue, and Cad Plating.  MSI also stocks stainless washers from ¼ - 1-1/2”.  MSI can also provide larger washers, washers made from special alloys, and many different coatings. However, some of these items may be subject to a lead time.

Styles of Washers

Circular: washers in nominal bolt diameters 1/4"  through 4" suitable for applications where sufficient space exists and angularity permits.

Beveled: beveled washers are square or rectangular, in nominal sizes 1/4" through 1-1/2", with a beveled 1 ot 6 ration surface for use with American standard beams and channels. Beveled F436 washers are normally not available over 1". Clipped bevel washers are only usually available as specials.

Clipped: Clipped washers are circular or beveled for use where space limitations necessitate that one side be clipped.

Extra thick: these washers are available in nominal sizes 1/2" through 1-1/2" with a nominal thickness of 5/16" suitable for structural applications for oversized holes.

Coating and Plating

Nuts are most commonly available with a plain finish, which is also referred to as Black.  However, there are also numerous applications that call for coating/plating, with the most common Teflon Blue coating.  Teflon, or Xylan, coating provides for increased corrosive resistance, which is favorable that require increased corrosion resistance as well as the strength of carbon steel.
